This paper explores the biography and scholarly contributions of Sheikh Muhammad Umal (d. 1440 AH / 2018 CE), a prominent Somali Islamic scholar who played a pivotal role in the dissemination of classical Islamic knowledge within the Arabian Peninsula. Often referred to as the "Muḥaddith of the Two Sanctuaries" (Muḥaddith al-Ḥaramayn), Sheikh Umal’s life serves as a case study in the transmission of knowledge from the non-Arab periphery to the Arab core.
