Mon Amour | Me Titra Shqip

They say French is the language of love, but have you heard it in Shqip? 🇦🇱❤️

This paper analyzes the mixed-language utterance “Mon amour me titra shqip” — a three-word phrase combining French, Albanian, and an English-style orthographic rendering of the Albanian verb titroj . While syntactically irregular, the phrase reveals deep structures of identity, intimate address, and metalinguistic play. We argue that the speaker uses titroj metaphorically: to subtitle, name, or reframe their lover in Albanian, thereby claiming an intimate linguistic space. The French mon amour signals universal romance; the Albanian shqip asserts a local, untranslatable belonging. The verb titra (third person singular present, Balkan conjugation) acts as a performative act of linguistic appropriation. The paper examines code-switching typologies, Balkan verb semantics, and the poetics of minoritized language affirmation in intimate discourse. mon amour me titra shqip
